Born in 1952, Old Bardstown was an American Thoroughbred racehorse named after the city of Bardstown, Kentucky. Bred and raced by Calumet Farms, the horse twice won Florida's Tropical Handicap at the Tropical Park Race Track as well as the Widener Handicap at the Hialeah Park Race Track. In 31 career starts, Bardstown had 18 first place finishes, 7 second place finishes and 1 third place finish. By the time he retired at the age of 8, Old Bardstown was one of the top racing horses of his time. 

Old Bardstown Estate Bottled-in-Bond Whiskey pays homage to the legacy of the American Thoroughbred. The bourbon is made from a large amount of malted barley (15%) in the mash, which is fermented with Kentucky limestone water.
